Book description for The Path Warrior Insights of Masaru Taro
By R. David Lawrence, Sensei
This book is an attempt to give the advice the author has used and given to his student for over four decades as a martial art student and instructor in a narrative story form. It deals with subjects from personal growth, self defense, and surviving disasters, (natural or man-made). He uses a fictional instructor named Masaru Taro from his last book “Enlightenment Kicking and Screaming” as the giver of the teachings but this is not a continuation of the tale from the early work.
A word of warning neither the author nor the publishers of this book assumes responsibility for the use or misuse of the knowledge or opinions expressed in this book. This book is not a book that teaches how to do any particular martial art. It is more of a book on what to do and why to practice martial arts in general, while using the art of Tokoshi Bujutsu Jujutsu as a template. I am sure that all of these teachings will be recognizable to those of you who are familiar with Masaru Taro. To me Masaru Taro is a combination and the culmination of Miyamoto Musashi, Morihei Ueshiba, Bruce Lee, and Kwai Chang Caine filtered through my personality. These are the teachings of my inner sensei on what I hope will become a journey of introspection for you. The thoughts of our minds, the words we speak and our decisions help define and shape the person we are and are to become. The substantiation of royalty lies not in titles but in our service to others. Truth is our guide on the path of life, truth is the father of wisdom and wisdom leads to enlightenment.
A long time student wrote.
"I have studied martial arts under R. David Lawrence (R. D.) for nearly 20 years now. I guess I should rephrase that...I have studied life under R. D. for nearly 20 years. It took me until I had left for the military to start to realize I didn't just have a Sensei...I had a brother...an uncle...I dare say a second bonus father to help guide me in all things. I didn't just learn how to punch and kick and take people down. I learned how to live a just life. R. D. served as a guide for me in all things martial, spiritual and helped to reinforce the morals and do it right or don't do it at all attitude my father had beat into me as soon as I started doing chores. He opened doors of thought for me that I doubt I would have found without his guidance. I look back now and truly feel that I would not be the man I am today had I not started training under R. D. long ago. Read and enjoy this book, take the lessons and apply them to your life, you will be grateful you did."

Even though I'm still in the process of reading this book, I wanted to be the first to say, WOW! This book is geared for anyone involved in the martial arts regardless of style. I'm a 6th degree black belt in Shotokan and can relate to much of what the author speaks of. I was looking for a good book on martial arts philosophy and stumbled upon this one. I don't believe it was just chance. It was meant to be. I intend to comment more after I finish this book. I wish the author could tell me how to join the Knights of Martial Arts Assoc. I haven't been able to locate it on-line.Product details

This is an amazing read. RD covers everything I always ask him about. It's almost like he wrote this for me for a person reference. Read it often.
